Stinging Nettle & Dandelion – A Portrait of the Plant

Botanical names:
Urtica dioica (stinging nettle), Taraxacum officinale (dandelion).

Common names:

Stinging Nettle: Thunder Nettle, Hemp Nettle
Dandelion: Cowflower, Dandelion

Brief description of the plant:
Stinging nettle and dandelion belong to different botanical families and have been a defining feature of Central European flora for centuries. The stinging nettle (Family: Urticaceae) is a perennial, herbaceous plant with characteristic stinging hairs and opposite, serrated leaves. It prefers to grow in nutrient-rich soils in Europe, Asia, and North America and can reach impressive heights. The dandelion (family: Asteraceae) is recognizable by its basal leaf rosette, bright yellow flower heads, and the familiar dandelion puffs. It thrives worldwide in meadows, along roadsides, and in gardens and is considered particularly adaptable. While the stinging nettle exhibits a typical defense strategy through its stinging hairs, the dandelion impresses with its deep taproot and its efficient dispersal via seeds capable of dispersal by wind. Together, both plants symbolize robustness, adaptability, and a long tradition in botany.

Special features:
The stinging nettle was once used to produce textile fibers—its fibers are so tear-resistant that they even replaced cotton during World War I. The dandelion, on the other hand, possesses an extraordinary seed-dispersal technique: Its “parachutes” can travel kilometers and even use the slightest air currents to rise to heights of over 100 meters.

History and traditional significance of the two plants

Both plants have a long history in traditional botany. The stinging nettle was already valued in ancient times as a versatile crop—not only for its leaves but also for its sturdy fibers. The dandelion was an important wild vegetable in many regions of Europe and, due to its widespread availability, was regarded as a valuable cultivated and useful plant. Together, the stinging nettle and the dandelion symbolize deep roots, adaptability, and centuries of significance in the use of native wild plants.

Key ingredients

The plants used contain a variety of natural compounds. Relevant groups include:

Flavonoids (e.g., rutin in stinging nettle)
Phenolic carboxylic acids (e.g., chlorogenic acid in dandelion)
Minerals (e.g., potassium in stinging nettle and dandelion)
Bitter compounds (e.g., sesquiterpene lactones in dandelion)
Polysaccharides (e.g., inulin in dandelion root)

The content of these substances is subject to natural fluctuations.

Detoxification and Cleansing – "Cleansing set" with Sagrusan

Plant parts used:
We use the roots of organic stinging nettle and organic dandelion for our tinctures.

Manufacturing instructions:
Our tinctures are carefully produced in our Austrian facility according to the alchemical principles of Paracelsus. This process allows us to extract a broad spectrum of the plant’s natural compounds.

Quality features:

Vegan and free from artificial additives.
Free of preservatives.
Free of artificial colors.
Bottled in high-quality amber glass (50/100 ml) for optimal protection.

Why use it as a tincture?

The tincture concentrates soluble plant compounds and makes them available for a longer period of time. Alcohol serves as an extractant and preservative and has the great advantage of extracting water- and fat-soluble compounds from the plant. These, in turn, are absorbed quickly and directly through the mucous membranes—ideal even in cases of impaired absorption. An alcohol-free version often cannot extract this range of compounds in the same way.

Product information: Ingredients of the drops

Organic alcohol (80% vol.)
Spring water from ‘Kuppler brunn’, 9372 Eberstein, AUT

The recommended daily intake contains an alcoholic extract of 512 mg of organic stinging nettle herb, 152 mg of organic dandelion root, and 92 mg each of dandelion leaves and flowers, with a mineral extract obtained via calcination.
