Lady’s mantle & Yarrow & Yam & Red Clover – A portrait of the plant

Botanical names:
Alchemilla vulgaris (Lady’s mantle), Achillea millefolium (Yarrow), Dioscorea villosa (Yam), Trifolium pratense (red clover).

Common names:

Lady’s mantle: Lady’s mantle, Alchemist’s Herb
Yarrow: Thousand-leaf, Soldier’s herb
Yam: Wild yam, American yam
Red clover: Meadow clover, Red-flowered clover

Brief description of the plants:
The four plants in this combination come from different botanical families and combine Central European meadow flora with the power of tropical roots. Lady’s mantle (Family: Rosaceae) is a perennial herb with rounded, folded, velvety leaves and delicate yellow-green flowers that thrives in moist meadows across Europe and Asia. Yarrow (Family: Asteraceae) features finely pinnate leaves and white umbellate flowers and is found worldwide—especially in nutrient-rich, sunny locations. The Yam (Family: Dioscoreaceae) is native to North America and forms robust, tuberous rhizomes as well as heart-shaped leaves on climbing vines. Red clover (Family: Fabaceae) is a typical European meadow and field plant that forms spherical, purplish-red inflorescences and is known for its symbiotic nitrogen fixation in the soil. Together, these plants demonstrate remarkable adaptability and diversity—ranging from herbaceous meadow plants to tropical vines.

Special features:

Lady’s mantle: The leaves can produce so-called guttation droplets—clear beads that do not come from dew but are actively secreted. Alchemists once collected them for their experiments.
Yarrow: Its botanical name, “Achillea,” derives from the hero Achilles, who, according to legend, used the plant for external applications—hence its common name, “soldier’s herb.”
Yam: Some yam species can produce vines several meters long and develop impressively large tubers, which served as a valuable food source in traditional cultures.
Red clover: Red clover is a natural soil enhancer: Thanks to its nodule bacteria, it can fix nitrogen from the air and thus naturally make fields more fertile.

History and traditional significance of the Four Plants

All four plants have a long tradition in European and North American botany. Lady’s mantle was valued in the Middle Ages as a symbol of protection and harmony and was widely used in monastery gardens. Yarrow was considered a hardy “soldier’s herb” and was traditionally used for external applications. Yam played an important role in North American botany as a useful and cultivated plant. Red clover, in turn, has been an integral part of European agriculture for centuries and was valued both as a forage crop and in folklore. Together, these plants represent diversity, deep roots, and a long history of traditional uses.

Key ingredients

The plants used contain a wide variety of natural constituents. Relevant groups include:

Tannins (e.g., in Lady’s mantle)
Flavonoids (e.g., apigenin in Yarrow)
Saponins (e.g., dioscin in Yam)
Bitter compounds (e.g., in Yarrow and Lady’s mantle)
Isoflavones (e.g., formononetin in red clover)

The content of these substances is subject to natural fluctuations.

Menopause set

Plant parts used:
For our tinctures, we use the herb of Lady’s mantle and Yarrow, as well as the root of yam and organic Red clover flowers.

Manufacturing instructions:
Our tinctures are carefully produced in our Austrian workshop according to the alchemical principles of Paracelsus. This process allows us to extract a broad spectrum of the plants’ natural compounds.

Quality features:

Vegan and free from artificial additives.
Free of preservatives.
Free of artificial colors.
Bottled in high-quality amber glass (50/100 ml) for optimal protection.

Why use it as a tincture?

The tincture concentrates soluble plant compounds and makes them available for a longer period of time. Alcohol serves as an extractant and preservative and has the great advantage of extracting both water- and fat-soluble compounds from the plant. These, in turn, are absorbed quickly and directly through the mucous membranes—ideal even in cases of impaired absorption. An alcohol-free version often cannot extract this range of compounds in the same way.
