Botanical names:

Isatis tinctoria: Dyer’s woad, German indigo
Torilis japonica: Japanese burdock
Sophora flavescens: Yellow Pagoda tree (root)

Brief description of the plants:
The four plants in this tincture belong to different botanical families and represent a remarkable combination of Asian herbalism and European dyeing traditions. Scutellaria baicalensis (Family: Lamiaceae) is a perennial member of the mint family with purple flowers and a strong taproot, native to the steppe and mountainous regions of Siberia. Isatis tinctoria (Family: Brassicaceae), on the other hand, is a European crucifer with yellow inflorescences and blue-green foliage that has been cultivated as a dye plant for centuries. Torilis japonica (Family: Apiaceae) exhibits the typical umbel-like inflorescence structure of its family and grows as a delicate herb in East Asia and Europe. Sophora flavescens (family: Fabaceae) forms deep-reaching roots and bears pinnate leaves as well as cream-colored flowers. What they have in common is their adaptability to different climate zones, while their floral forms—ranging from umbels to lip-shaped flowers to papilionaceous flowers—reveal distinct botanical contrasts.

Special features:
While the famous dye “woad blue” was extracted from Isatis tinctoria, Scutellaria baicalensis got its name from its shield-shaped calyx. Torilis japonica, in turn, produces clinging fruits that can attach themselves to animal fur, and Sophora flavescens is one of the few Fabaceae species whose roots have been traditionally described—a botanically unusual combination.

History and traditional significance of the Four Plants

All four plants have a long history in the traditional botany of various cultural regions. Scutellaria baicalensis and Sophora flavescens have been described in East Asia for centuries as valuable root plants. Isatis tinctoria played a significant role in Europe as a dye plant and shaped entire trade regions. Torilis japonica has been documented in East Asia and Europe primarily as a botanically interesting wild herb. Together, these plants represent diversity, cultural roots, and a long tradition of use in various regions of the world.

Why use it as a tincture?

The tincture concentrates soluble plant compounds and makes them available for a longer period of time. Alcohol serves as an extractant and preservative and has the great advantage of extracting both water- and fat-soluble compounds from the plant. These, in turn, are absorbed quickly and directly through the mucous membranes—ideal even in cases of impaired absorption. An alcohol-free version often cannot extract this range of compounds in the same way.

Product information: Ingredients of the drops

Organic alcohol (80% vol.)
Spring water from the “Kupplerbrunn” Alpine spring, 9372 Eberstein, AUT
Alcoholic extract of Baikal skullcap root, woad, upright hedge parsley, and string tree root.
Aqueous mineral extract obtained after calcination of the plant components used.

Once the plant minerals (i.e. mineral extract) have been added to the alcohol extract, the alcohol content of the finished tincture is reduced to 65% vol.

Recommended dosage: Application & Dosage

Take 25 drops 3 times daily, diluted with a little water (150 ml)
OR add 60 drops to 500 ml of water and drink throughout the day
100 ml contains approximately 2200 drops.

Tip: Hold the drops in your mouth for a few moments before swallowing.

The recommended daily intake (75 drops) contains an alcoholic extract of 175 mg of Baikal skullcap root, woad, common climbing chervil, and spindle tree root, with a mineral extract obtained via calcination.

Important information about this food supplement

Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced, varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Do not exceed the recommended daily intake.
Keep out of reach of small children.
Store in a dry place away from direct light. This also applies to bottles that have already been opened. A dark cupboard is best for storage.
A natural sediment may form. In this case, give the tincture a quick shake before taking it.
It is not recommended to take this product during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding.
