The Pumpkin & Saw Palmetto Tincture combines two carefully selected plant ingredients: the nutrient-rich seeds of the garden pumpkin and the fruits of the North American saw palmetto. Pumpkin & Saw Palmetto – A Portrait of the Two Plants

Botanical names:
Cucurbita pepo (squash), Serenoa repens (saw palmetto).

Common names:

Pumpkin: garden pumpkin, edible pumpkin
Saw palmetto: Dwarf palm, sabal palm

Brief Description of the Plant:
Pumpkin and saw palmetto come from different botanical families, but both display impressive adaptability and robust growth habits. The pumpkin (fam.: Cucurbitaceae) is an annual, herbaceous plant with long, climbing shoots and large, heart-shaped leaves. Its bell-shaped flowers are yellow, and the fruits—botanically classified as berries—vary widely in shape and color. The pumpkin is native to Central America and is now cultivated worldwide. The oil-rich seeds are particularly prized. The saw palmetto (Family: Arecaceae) is a perennial, shrub-like fan palm with serrated petioles and spherical, dark blue to black drupes. It is native to the southeastern United States and prefers to grow in sandy soils. Both plants share resilience and the production of nutrient-rich seeds or fruits, which are traditionally used in botany.

Special features:
The saw palmetto can live for several hundred years—and grows back even after forest fires. Its fruits are so resilient that they can germinate even under extreme conditions. The pumpkin is also impressive: Its seeds naturally contain a high proportion of phytosterols and polyunsaturated fatty acids—and were already being cultivated and used by indigenous cultures over 9,000 years ago.

History and traditional significance of the two plants

Both plants have a long history in traditional botany. Pumpkin seeds were used as a nutrient-rich food by indigenous peoples in Mexico over 9,000 years ago. In Europe today, they are considered a popular ingredient in cooking and a component of plant-based recipes. The saw palmetto has its origins in North American botany and was traditionally used there as a wild fruit. Its hardy nature and ability to thrive even under difficult conditions made it a valued plant in local applications. Together, the pumpkin and saw palmetto symbolize resilience, nutritional richness, and a long history of using seeds and fruits.

Key ingredients

The plants used contain a variety of natural compounds. Relevant groups include:

Phytosterols (e.g., beta-sitosterol in pumpkin seeds and saw palmetto berries)
Fatty acids (e.g., linoleic acid in Pumpkin seeds)
Flavonoids (e.g., in saw palmetto fruits)
Tannins (e.g., in the fruit peel of the saw palmetto)

The content of these substances is subject to natural fluctuations.

Our Pumpkin & Saw Palmetto Tincture from Sagrusan

Plant parts used:
For our compound tincture, we use pumpkin seeds and saw palmetto berries.

Manufacturing instructions:
Our blended tincture is carefully produced in our Austrian facility according to the alchemical principles of Paracelsus. This process allows us to extract a broad spectrum of the plant’s natural compounds.

Quality features:

Vegan and free from artificial additives.
Free of preservatives.
Free of artificial colors.
Bottled in high-quality amber glass (100 ml) for optimal protection.

Why take it as drops?

The tincture concentrates soluble plant compounds and makes them available for a longer period of time. Alcohol serves as an extractant and preservative and has the major advantage of extracting water- and fat-soluble compounds from the plant. These, in turn, are absorbed quickly and directly through the mucous membranes, enabling high bioavailability and a rapid onset of action—ideal even for digestive issues or impaired absorption. An alcohol-free version often cannot extract this range of substances in the same way.

Product information: Ingredients of the drops

Organic alcohol (80% vol.)
Spring water from ‘Kuppler brunn’, 9372 Eberstein, AUT
Alcoholic extract from organic pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita pepo) and Saw palmetto berries (Serenoa repens).
Aqueous mineral extract obtained after calcination of the plant components used.

Once the plant minerals (i.e. mineral extract) have been added to the alcohol extract, the alcohol content of the finished tincture is reduced to 65% vol.

Recommended dosage: Application & Dosage

Take 30 drops twice daily, diluted in a little water (150 ml)
OR add 60 drops to 500 ml of water and drink throughout the day
For best results, it is recommended that you take this for at least 2–3 months.
100 ml contains approximately 2200 drops.

Tip: Hold the drops in your mouth for a few moments before swallowing.

The recommended daily intake (60 drops) contains an alcoholic extract of 480 mg of Saw palmetto berries and 200 mg of organic Pumpkin seeds, with a mineral extract obtained via calcination.
