Description
The Ginkgo tree belongs to the Ginko family, which is related to the family of conifers. This tree originates from prehistoric times and has not changed its initial appearance until today.
The tree is native to China and has been cultivated in Japan for a very long time. In 1730, it was brought to Europe for the first time. It is very resistant and adaptable, but prefers nutrient-rich, clay-rich soil and a sunny to semi-shaded environment.
The ginkgo tree is a deciduous tree that grows slender and upright and can reach a height of 40 meters. By its crown, one can tell the age of the tree, because as it matures, the tree's crown becomes wider. Its leaves are fan-shaped, elongated and green, but in autumn they turn golden.
Did you know that the ginkgo tree is considered a fossil in the plant world? It was already found 200 to 300 million years ago and never changed its appearance since then.
