"Movement Set 2" – A Portrait of the Plant

Botanical names:
Curcuma longa (turmeric), Zingiber officinale (ginger), Aegopodium podagraria (Ground elder), Urtica dioica (stinging nettle), Harpagophytum procumbens (Devil’s claw).

Common names:

Turmeric: yellow root, saffron root
Ginger: Ingber, Everroot
Ground elder: Goat’s foot, Three-leaf
Stinging nettle: Thunder nettle, hemp nettle, large nettle
Devil’s claw: Trampelklette, Greifkralle

Brief description of the plant:
The five plants in this combination come from different botanical families and combine tropical rhizomatous plants with the potent wild flora of Central Europe and the distinctive root power of South African savannas. Turmeric and ginger (Family: Zingiberaceae) are perennial, herbaceous plants with aromatic rhizomes, narrow leaves, and striking inflorescences; they are native to South and Southeast Asia and are now found worldwide. Ground elder (Family: Apiaceae) is a typical Central European wild herb with trifoliate leaves and white umbel flowers that prefers to grow in partially shaded areas. The stinging nettle (family: Urticaceae) is a hardy perennial with characteristic stinging hairs and serrated leaves that is widespread in Europe and Asia. Devil’s claw (Family: Pedaliaceae), on the other hand, originates from the arid regions of southern Africa and forms long, branched storage roots as well as creeping shoots with striking, purple flowers. What all these plants have in common is their remarkable adaptability, while their differences—from tropical rhizomes to native leafy herbs to African roots—result in a fascinating botanical diversity.

Special features:
Turmeric traditionally dyes fabrics and foods a vivid yellow—an effect that has been utilized for centuries. Ginger belongs botanically to the lily family and produces aromatic rhizomes that were traded as far back as ancient times. Ground elder was so widespread in the Middle Ages that it is mentioned in monastic chronicles as a “gardener’s scourge.” The stinging nettle has tiny silica tips on its stinging hairs that function like microscopic hypodermic needles. Devil’s claw, on the other hand, disperses its seeds via hook-like fruits that anchor themselves in the fur of passing animals—an impressive survival strategy.

History and traditional significance of the plants

Turmeric and ginger have a centuries-long tradition in Asian botany and were valued both as spices and as crops. Ground elder and stinging nettle have always been part of the Central European herbal tradition and were gathered for their hardiness and versatility. Devil’s claw has its origins in South African botany, where its distinctive root has long been considered a valuable crop. Together, these plants symbolize diversity, deep roots, and a long history of herbal and root use.

Key ingredients

The plants used contain a wide variety of natural compounds. Relevant groups include:

Curcuminoids (e.g., curcumin in turmeric)
Gingerols (e.g., 6-gingerol in ginger)
Bitter compounds (e.g., in ground elder and stinging nettle)
Phenolic carboxylic acids and flavonoids (e.g., in stinging nettle)
Iridoid glycosides (e.g., harpagoside in Devil’s claw)

The content of these substances is subject to natural fluctuations.

"Movement Set 2" by Sagrusan

Plant parts used:
We use organic turmeric, organic ginger, organic ground elder, organic stinging nettle, and organic Devil’s claw in our tinctures.

Manufacturing instructions:
Our tinctures are carefully produced in our Austrian facility according to the alchemical principles of Paracelsus. This process allows us to extract a broad spectrum of the plants’ natural compounds.

Quality features:

Vegan and free from artificial additives.
Free of preservatives.
Free of artificial colors.
Bottled in high-quality amber glass (50/100 ml) for optimal protection.

Why use it as a tincture?

The tincture concentrates soluble plant compounds and makes them available for a longer period of time. Alcohol serves as an extractant and preservative and has the great advantage of extracting water- and fat-soluble compounds from the plant. These, in turn, are absorbed quickly and directly through the mucous membranes—ideal even in cases of impaired absorption. An alcohol-free version often cannot extract this range of compounds in the same way.
