The plants in LYMOSAN Tincture
Common names:
Yellow sweet clover (Melilotus officinalis): yellow melilot, ribbed melilot
Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica): common nettle, nettle
Greater burdock (Arctium lappa): burdock, gobo, beggar’s buttons
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale): lion’s tooth, blowball
Cleavers (Galium aparine): goosegrass, sticky willy
Short description of the plants:
Yellow sweet clover belongs to the legume family (Fabaceae). This biennial plant grows up to 1.5 metres tall and bears trifoliate leaves and slender racemes of small yellow flowers. It originates from Europe and Asia and grows along roadsides and on fallow land; when dried, the herb gives off a hay-like scent. Stinging nettle (Urticaceae) is a perennial with serrated leaves whose stinging hairs burn on contact. It is found in temperate zones worldwide and prefers nitrogen-rich soils. Greater burdock and dandelion belong to the daisy family (Asteraceae) and are native to Europe and Asia. Burdock forms large, heart-shaped leaves, purple flower heads with hooked bracts and a sturdy taproot. Dandelion grows as a rosette with deeply toothed leaves, bright yellow flower heads and white milky sap. Cleavers belongs to the madder family (Rubiaceae). This annual plant has long, square stems with whorled leaves and tiny white flowers; thanks to fine hooked hairs, it climbs up other plants. It is widespread in Europe, Asia and North America.
Special features:
The hooked flower heads of greater burdock are regarded as the model for the hook-and-loop fastener. After a walk, Swiss engineer George de Mestral examined the burrs caught in his dog’s fur under a microscope and developed the well-known fastening principle from them.
History and traditional significance of the plants
All five plants have a long tradition in European folk and monastic medicine. Yellow sweet clover was already described by the Greek physician Dioscorides in the 1st century, and nettle appears in Hildegard von Bingen’s “Physica”, among other works. Dandelion is also an established part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and burdock root is still eaten as a vegetable (“gobo”) in Japan today. In rural areas, cleavers was once used as a simple sieve for straining milk.

Manufacturing instructions:
Our blended tincture is carefully produced in our Austrian manufactory according to the alchemical principles of Paracelsus. This process allows us to extract a broad spectrum of the plant’s own compounds.
Quality features:
- Vegan and free from artificial additives.
- Free from preservatives.
- Free from colourings.
- Bottled in high-quality amber glass (100 ml) for optimal protection.
Why use a tincture?
The tincture concentrates soluble plant compounds and keeps them available for longer. Alcohol serves as an extraction agent and preservative and has the great advantage of dissolving both water-soluble and fat-soluble constituents from the plant. These in turn are absorbed quickly and directly through the mucous membranes – ideal even when absorption is limited. An alcohol-free alternative often cannot extract this range of compounds in the same way.
