"Movement Set 3" – A Portrait of the Plant

Botanical names:
Curcuma longa (turmeric), Zingiber officinale (ginger), Aegopodium podagraria (ground elder), Urtica dioica (stinging nettle), Solidago virgaurea (yellow Goldenrods).

Common names:

Turmeric: yellow root, saffron root, yellow ginger
Ginger: Ingber, ever-root, ginger root
Ground elder: Goat’s foot, Three-leaf, Zipperlein herb
Stinging nettle: Thunder nettle, hemp nettle, large nettle
Goldenrods: Goldenrods, Heidnisch Wundkraut, Common goldenrod

Brief description of the plants:
The five plants in this combination belong to different botanical families and combine tropical rhizome plants with Central European wild herbs. Turmeric and ginger (family: Zingiberaceae) are perennial, herbaceous plants with aromatic rhizomes, lanceolate leaves, and vibrantly colored inflorescences; they originate from South and Southeast Asia and are now cultivated worldwide. Ground elder (fam.: Apiaceae) is a typical Central European wild herb with trifoliate leaves and white umbel flowers that prefers to grow in partially shaded locations. The stinging nettle (fam.: Urticaceae) is a hardy perennial with characteristic stinging hairs and serrated leaves that is widespread in Europe and Asia. Common goldenrods (Family: Asteraceae) produce bright yellow, panicle-like inflorescences and thrive in sunny, dry locations throughout Europe. What all these plants have in common is their remarkable adaptability, while their differences—ranging from tropical rhizomes to native leafy and flowering herbs—result in a fascinating botanical diversity.

Special features:
Turmeric and goldenrods have historically been used as natural dyes—turmeric for textiles and manuscripts, goldenrods for particularly lightfast shades of yellow. Ginger is one of the oldest known spice plants used by humans. Ground elder was so widespread in the Middle Ages that it was considered the “gardener’s curse,” while the stinging nettle has served as a fiber plant for centuries and even provided fabric for sails and uniforms. Five plants—five surprising stories.

History and traditional significance of the plants

Turmeric and ginger have a long tradition in Asian regions as spice and cultivated plants. Ground elder and stinging nettle have been part of Central European botany for centuries and were used in a variety of ways—from monastery gardens to folk botany. Goldenrods were valued in Europe from early on as both an ornamental and a useful plant. Together, these plants symbolize diversity, deep roots, and a long history of human interaction with herbs and roots.

Key ingredients

The plants used contain a wide variety of natural compounds. Relevant groups include:

Curcuminoids (e.g., curcumin in turmeric)
Essential oils (e.g., gingerols in ginger)
Bitter compounds (e.g., in Goldenrods and stinging nettle)
Flavonoids (e.g., rutoside in Goldenrods)
Minerals (naturally occurring in stinging nettle)

The content of these substances is subject to natural fluctuations.

"Movement Set 3" by Sagrusan

Plant parts used:
We use organic turmeric, organic ginger, organic ground elder, organic stinging nettle, and organic Goldenrods in our tinctures.

Manufacturing instructions:
Our tinctures are carefully produced in our Austrian facility according to the alchemical principles of Paracelsus. This process allows us to extract a broad spectrum of the plant’s natural compounds.

Quality features:

Vegan and free from artificial additives.
Free of preservatives.
Free of artificial colors.
Bottled in high-quality amber glass (50/100 ml) for optimal protection.

Why use it as a tincture?

The tincture concentrates soluble plant compounds and makes them available for longer. Alcohol serves as both an extractant and a preservative and has the major advantage of extracting water- and fat-soluble compounds from the plant. These, in turn, are absorbed quickly and directly through the mucous membranes—ideal even in cases of impaired absorption. An alcohol-free version often cannot extract this range of compounds in the same way.
