Description
The wild teasel belongs to the teasel family.
The plant is native to Europe, but it can also be found in other countries, including Turkey, Iran and the northwestern regions of Africa. They grow especially fast in sunny locations.
The growth of wild teasel is described as herbaceous. It is a biennial plant with a maximum growth of 150 to 200 cm. It is characterized by its sharp thorns, which protect it from predators. The leaves of the perennial are divided into two parts and consist of thin stem leaves and base leaves. At the end of the long stems, the blue-purple flowers are formed in the flowering season.
It is very interesting that the leaves of the plant collect rainwater, therefore it is possible to drink out of them - birds are occasionally seen doing so.
Stevia rebaudiana, also known as sweet herb or sweet leaf, belongs to the composite family and is thus even related to Artemisia annua.
Originally, the stevia plant comes from South America, more precisely from Brazil and Paraguay. There it grows in the highlands and was already highly valued by the native inhabitants. In the 16th century, the Spanish brought the stevia plant to Europe, since then it is also known and popular in our country.
The stevia plant is a non-hardy bush that can reach a height of 120cm. The stems are strongly branched and the toothed, dark green leaves hang on them. The small white flowers of the bush are beautiful but quite unimpressive.
Did you know that Stevia is especially known for its extremely sweet taste, which is the reason the plant was already used by the indigenous people to sweeten food and drinks?
