Description
The red grapevine leaves come from the grapevine, which belongs to the grapevine family.
The vine probably comes from Asia Minor and is now widely cultivated: For example, in Central and Southern Europe, Australia and South Africa. The vine absolutely needs a sunny, warm location in order to develop ripe grapes.
Strictly speaking, the plant is a climbing shrub that rises very quickly and can grow up to 10 metres high if left uncut. The leaves of the vine are alternate, 5 to 15 cm in size and strongly serrated. In the case of the red vine foliage, the leaves contain a variety of red pigments that are responsible for its colouring. The flowering time differs depending on the variety, but it is always between May and July. During this time, the yellow-green flowers form, from which the popular fruits, the grapes, develop. The grapes can be either green-yellow, red or purple in colour.
Did you already know that grape leaves can also be prepared and eaten? Eating grape leaves is most popular in the Middle East.
