It is native to the rocky mountainous regions of Greece, southern Bulgaria, Albania and the European part of Turkey. The Greek vervain can be found between 1300 to 2000 meters of altitude. It grows best in sunny, warm places with dry and calcareous soil.
Sideritis scardica grows perennially and endures the winter. The plant grows up to 50cm high and has gray, hairy leaves that have glandular sheds. Their appearance remind of the leaves of sage. The flowers are light yellow and tube-shaped.
