Description
Wild teasel belongs to the teasel family.
The plant is native to Europe, but it can also be found in other countries, including Turkey, Iran and the northwestern regions of Africa. They grow especially fast in sunny locations.
The growth of wild teasel is described as herbaceous. It is a biennial plant with a maximum growth of 150 to 200 cm. It is characterized by its sharp thorns, which protect it from predators. The leaves of the perennial are divided into two parts and consist of thin stem leaves and base leaves. At the end of the long stems, the blue-purple flowers are formed in the flowering season.
It is very interesting that the leaves of the plant collect rainwater, therefore it is possible to drink out of them – birds are occasionally seen doing so.
